76 - Learn the Dog Smart together

76 - Learn the Dog Smart together

Or ‘Smart Dog’, which is now Archie’s offi cial middle name. Archie loves this Nina Ottosson toy the most and, as he is very dexterous with his mouth, it gives him an appropriate outlet for this supreme skill, which is far more appealing than his old habit of thieving a jar of fresh pesto from the kitchen counter and delicately unscrewing the lid without leaving a single tooth mark on it.

To play with this toy, the dog needs to pull out each block to access the hidden treats. They should not be encouraged to push them over with their paw.

1. Load the toy while your dog is watching. Sit with him and show him that the treats are hidden beneath the wooden blocks. Let him work it out for himself but do not let him go charging around the living room or garden with the blocks. They are not his prize.

 2. Encourage and praise your dog as he gets closer to the goal.

Vary the game and only place treats under a few blocks and see if he can work out which ones are covering up the treats.

Sarah shows Archie where the treats are hidden. He carefully removes the block … and voila! has found the treat
