68 - Teach him to be led by a child

68 - Teach him to be led by a child

Children love to be involved in the process of taking the family dog for a walk, and even if they are very small there is a way to include them, without putting the child or dog at risk of accident or injury.

    1. You will need an extra leash that you can thread through the collar or, better still, attach it to a harness in addition to your normal walking kit. Attach one leash to the collar and one to the harness. If you only have a collar on your dog, loop a leash through the collar. Make sure that the two leashes are not clipped onto the same ring and do not use two separate collars.

    2. Make sure you have the controlling leash on one side and allow the child to hold a neutral leash on the other side. Now you are in a perfect position to make sure that the child is not pulled over and your dog is not dragged around by an over-enthusiastic youngster.
