If you have taught your dog the appropriate greeting exercise he should already know how to say hello to his admirers. Keep your treat pouch on hand so that you can ask him to touch their hand and then turn to you for his reward. Make sure that he keeps all four paws on the ground – don’t allow him to jump up at small children. Adults and children need to follow some simple rules too. Ask them not to feed your dog and only let them stroke him if he is calmly in a sit or, at the very least, has all four feet on the ground. Encourage them to stand slightly to the side and slowly stroke his chest. Explain that he will be calmer if he can see their hand and that if they try to stroke the top of his head or the back of his neck that he will naturally look up to see where their hand has gone.

Dogs must be calm and well-behaved when meeting other people, especially children. Orsa is a star
