    Tornjak |Bosnia,Herzegovina,Croatia|

Little is known about the origins of the large and powerful Tornjak, although it is believed to be related to the Tibetan Mastiff. Tornjaks have existed in parts of Bosnia, Herzegovina, and Croatia for hundreds of years primarily as livestock guardians, watchdogs, and herding dogs. They are first mentioned in documents that date back to 1067. By 1972 the breed was virtually extinct and has been salvaged only through the dedicated efforts of enthusiasts. These are primarily working dogs, which can become companions but require lots of space, exercise, and interaction. They are best suited to an experienced home in a rural location.
