Tibetan Spaniel |Tibet|

Tibetan Spaniel |Tibet|

The Tibetan Spaniel developed in the Himalayan Mountains of remote Tibet more than 2,000 years ago, and has a history closely entwined with the Buddhist faith. These dogs were bred by Tibetan monks as “little lion dogs.” They were thought to bring good luck and were valued as watchdogs in the monasteries—the little dogs lay on top of the exterior walls and sounded a vigorous alarm when needed. Legend has it that they also turned prayer wheels. The breed arrived in England in 1898, and in the United States in 1966. They are devoted, sensitive, and intelligent dogs that thrive on the companionship of their families.
