    Staffordshire Bull Terrier |England|

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier has its foundation in the early Bull and Terrier breeds that were bred for dog fighting and animal baiting, which had reached an ascendency in the early nineteenth century. These dogs were characterized by their bravery and fierceness while fighting, but their gentleness with their handlers. The Staffordshire was named after the area in England with which the dogs were most associated and was recognized by the Kennel Club in 1935. Despite their bloody heritage, Staffies, or Nanny Dogs as they are often called, have superb temperaments and are noted for their affection for children—hence the “Nanny” nickname. They have a reliable, loyal, and devoted nature and are generally good with other dogs. The Staffy is intelligent, easy to train, dependable, and a fun loving companion—but given their lovely nature, are not very good watchdogs!
