Skye Terrier |Scotland|

Skye Terrier |Scotland|

The Skye Terrier developed on the Isle of Skye off of northwestern Scotland and, tracing back 400 years, is one of the oldest of the Scottish terrier breeds. Interestingly, while most breeds have seen great changes over the last hundred years, the Skye Terrier is pretty much the same. These dogs developed their long coat to protect them from prey and weather, and are highly skilled hunters, taking on fox, badger, otter, rats, and any other vermin that crosses them. They were widespread during the nineteenth century, partly due to the influence of Queen Victoria, but are seen less often today. Skye Terriers are affectionate and loyal dogs that are fearless hunters and make good watchdogs. They may be aggressive with other dogs and are wary of strangers.
