Sealyham Terrier |Wales|

Sealyham Terrier |Wales|

The Sealyham Terrier was developed by Captain John Edwardes at his Sealyham Estate in Haverfordwest, Wales, between 1850 and 1891. He wanted to breed a dog that was brave and agile enough to hunt badger, otter, and fox, and based his new breed on a mix of terrier types, including Dandie Dinmonts, Fox Terriers, and West Highland Whites. Sealyhams were used for digging prey out of holes and accompanying Otter Hounds. The breed was recognized by the English Kennel Club in 1910 and by the American Kennel Club in 1911. The Sealyham is a loyal and devoted companion that can be independent and aggressive to other dogs. The breed is also wary of strangers and retains a high prey drive.
