Kyi-Leo |United States|

Kyi-Leo |United States|

One of the original “designer dogs,” this rare breed was developed in San Francisco in the 1950s by crossing a Lhasa Apso and a Maltese. By 1972 it got the name Kyi, from the Tibetan word for “dog,” and Leo, from the Latin for “lion,” in homage to the Maltese, which is also known as the Maltese Lion Dog. The breed is recognized by the American Rare Breed Association. These are affectionate, playful dogs that are devoted to their families but may be wary of strangers. They are lively, can be stubborn, and have unusually dexterous front paws.
