    Karakachan Dog |Bulgaria|

    Karakachan Dog |Bulgaria|

This ancient breed is named after the Karakachan people—nomadic shepherds descended from Central Europe’s Thracian livestock-breeding communities. The Karakachan are noted for preserving historic breeds of sheep and horses in addition to the Karakachan Dog. The dogs are renowned for their bravery and have long been used for protecting livestock herds from wolves and other large predators. They are strongly territorial and will guard homes, vehicles, livestock, and their families with great loyalty. Small numbers of the breed are used in the United States on ranches and farms in guardian-type roles. These are working dogs bred for many years to do a specific job, and they are best suited to that lifestyle.
