    Jämthund |Sweden|

Also known as the Swedish Elkhound, this breed used to be grouped with the Norwegian Elkhound and was only recognized as its own breed in 1946. These dogs are most associated with the province of Jämtland in central Sweden and, despite their recent recognition, are believed to be ancient in origin. They have been used for centuries for big-game hunting, including moose and elk, and are one of the few breeds that will face a bear. They have a calm, level temperament, but can be intolerant of other dogs.
