    Entlebucher Mountain Dog |Switzerland|

    Entlebucher Mountain Dog |Switzerland|

This useful and versatile breed originated in the Entlebuch Valley, from where it takes its name, and is the smallest of the four Swiss Mountain Dog breeds. The breed dates back to the end of the nineteenth century, but for many years, the Entlebucher and the Appenzeller were considered the same. They were finally named two distinct breeds in 1927. The Entlebucher is a compact, muscular dog that was traditionally used for moving herds of livestock between pastures and for gathering dairy herds at milking time. Today the breed exists in relatively small numbers, but is valued as a lively, affectionate, and intelligent companion or worker.
