    Dogo Argentino |Argentina|

The distinctive Dogo Argentino, the only Argentinian breed recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale, was developed by Dr. Antonio Nores Martinez in Cordoba in the early twentieth century. The breed was based on the now extinct Cordoba fighting dog, crossed with a variety of others, including the Great Dane, Boxer, Bull Terrier, and Dogue de Bordeaux. Martinez recognized the Dogo Argentino’s hunting abilities, and it became a first-class big-game hunting dog. In its homeland, the breed is still used for hunting wild boar, wild cats, and other game, but is also highly regarded as a protective companion. It is banned in some countries under various dangerous-dog acts.
