    Chinese Chongqing Dog |China|

The Chinese Chongqing dog is an extremely rare and ancient breed that is little known outside of China and exists only in small numbers in its homeland. The dogs bear a striking resemblance to ancient pottery statuettes from the Han Dynasty (206 bce–ad 220), and it is assumed they descended from dogs of this period. A number of these statuettes have been recovered near the city of Chongqing, from which the breed takes its name. They were valued as guard dogs, but were also used for hunting. The Chongqing is fearless and devoted to its family. They must be properly socialized, and are not suitable for first-time dog owners.
