Cao De Fila De Sao Miguel |Portugal|

Cao De Fila De Sao Miguel |Portugal|

This breed traces to Saõ Miguel Island in the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores, where it was used primarily for working cattle. It is described in the breed standard as “biting low” when moving cattle to prevent injury to the udders. These dogs were also used for guarding livestock and property, and they exhibit the characteristic qualities of fearlessness and tenacity seen in other similar guardian breeds. Today these dogs are primarily used as companions and guard dogs and can be devoted, affectionate, and efficient in both roles. As with any large guardian breed, they must be properly socialized and given plenty of mental and physical diversions.
