    Broholmer |Denmark|

Also known as the Danish Mastiff, the Broholmer is a rare breed that developed in the 1500s from English Mastiff and other mastiff types. These noble-looking dogs have a long association with the Danish aristocracy and were often given as gifts. Traditionally they were used for guarding properties and livestock, and for hunting. By the 1970s, they had almost disappeared but were saved through the efforts of the Danish Kennel Club. These large, gentle dogs are generally calm around the house and protective of their families.
