Bichon Frisé |Spain|

Bichon Frisé |Spain|

Dating back to at least the fourteenth century, these small, friendly dogs are particularly associated with the Spanish Island of Tenerife. They were originally taken there by sailors who traded with the islanders. In the sixteenth century, they became favored pets among the French, Spanish, and Italian nobility, and the dogs often appear in artwork from this time. Later, in the nineteenth century, they were used by circuses and vagabonds for performing tricks. Bichons are fun, playful, affectionate dogs, but they can be prone to barking.
