    Berger Picard |France|

    Berger Picard |France|

The Berger Picard is a rare French breed whose ancestors are thought to have accompanied the Celts when they invaded northern France around 400 BCE. Images of dogs similar in appearance to the Berger Picard, with shaggy coats and tending livestock, can be seen in artwork and tapestries from the Middle Ages. The Berger Picard, with its wiry protective coat, hardiness, and great endurance, has changed little over the years and has always been primarily a working breed—herding, guarding livestock, watching over the home, and providing companionship. They can be wary of strangers and occasionally stubborn, but are loyal and, if properly socialized, can make good companions and watchdogs for an active home.
