    Affenpinscher |Germany|

The German word affenpinscher translates as “monkey terrier,” which is an appropriate description for these small, cheeky dogs. In France they are known as diablotin moustachu, meaning “moustached little devil”! The breed’s origins are not documented, but small terriers of this type were widespread in Germany by the seventeenth century, and depictions of similar dogs appear in paintings from much earlier. Affenpinschers were kept on farms and used for their rat-killing skills, but were also popular as ladies’ pets. They still excel in both these regards and make fun, lively, though occasionally stubborn, companions. The Affenpinscher is bold, athletic, playful, occasionally noisy, and generally good with other pets.
