Many dogs are reluctant
to take pills. The trick to getting these pets to accept
their medication is to cover it with a treat, so they
don’t know they’re swallowing a pill. There are treats
that allow you to insert the pill in an opening, then
pinch the treat closed, so the medicine is completely
hidden. An alternative is to take a meat roll and wrap
it around the pill meatball-style.
If
it is ever necessary to give a dog a pill directly, put
it as far back on the tongue as possible, then hold the
mouth closed, raising the head slightly and tickling the
throat to encourage swallowing.
