TAKING PILLS

How can I get my dog to take the pills our vet prescribed?

Many dogs are reluctant to take pills. The trick to getting these pets to accept their medication is to cover it with a treat, so they don’t know they’re swallowing a pill. There are treats that allow you to insert the pill in an opening, then pinch the treat closed, so the medicine is completely hidden. An alternative is to take a meat roll and wrap it around the pill meatball-style.

If it is ever necessary to give a dog a pill directly, put it as far back on the tongue as possible, then hold the mouth closed, raising the head slightly and tickling the throat to encourage swallowing.

The products carried by PSP in this category include Greenies Pill Pockets, and Natural Balance Meatrolls.
