Once a puppy has all his
shots, after about 16 weeks of age, take him in the car
for visits to Pet Supplies "Plus," and other fun places
to explore. This will not only get the puppy accustomed
to car riding, so he's a better traveler later, it will
also aid in the socialization process by exposing the
pet to new places, people and other dogs. Before you hit
the road with your new friend, make sure you have a good
carrier or car seat for the puppy. A puppy or adult dog
who rides unrestrained in a vehicle is more likely to be
injured or cause an accident by distracting the driver.
Avoid using a metal
crate to transport a puppy. There is a risk that the
puppy’s tag can become caught in the metal bars,
resulting in choking. (When a puppy is put in a crate at
home his collar should be removed eliminating this risk,
but you should leave the collar on when traveling.)
Puppies should have small ID tags, which are less likely
to get caught in an object.
