Although not nearly as common as
overeating, loss of appetite can be a problem for some
pets. Dogs will lose interest in food for a number of
reasons, including sickness, stress, and dental
problems, as well as the trauma of recovering from an
illness or injury. A decrease in appetite is also
sometimes associated with the normal aging process. It
is always recommended that you see a veterinarian to
eliminate any underlying medical cause of the appetite
loss.
For an immediate
solution, try adding an appetite enhancer to your dog’s
food. Some dogs will respond to a change in their diets
by refusing to eat. In these cases, an appetite enhancer
can be used to encourage dogs to accept the new food.
However, it is often more advisable to try introducing
your pet to a new brand of food without enhancers if
possible.
