PASSING GAS

What can we do to keep our dog from passing gas?

Sometimes it's difficult to be around even the sweetest dog when the old gas machine kicks into high gear. Flatulence (passing gas) in dogs can be due to a variety of factors. In some cases, it may be because the food a dog is eating has a vegetable content that is too high. In others, it may be because a dog is getting too many table scraps.

A switch to a new diet or a ban on scraps may be all that is needed to address the problem, so everyone can breathe easier. Giving the dog a supplement that includes yucca extract or similar gas fighting ingredient can also help, as can giving the dog charcoal biscuits. If the problem persists, a veterinarian should be consulted to rule out any underlying causes of the gas.
