CHOOSING A DOGHOUSE

What is the best doghouse for my pet?

Doghouses serve an important function for pets that are left outside in the yard for long stretches during the day. Not only do they provide shelter from the elements, they offer the dog a safe and secure sanctuary where she can withdraw to her own private space. The durable plastic resin doghouses sold at PSP have distinct advantages over traditional wooden models. Aside from their superior insulating properties, plastic doghouses are much easier to clean than wood, and they do not serve as a breeding ground for fleas.

Avoid getting a doghouse that is too large. The doghouse should have just enough room for the pet to stand up, turn around and lie down when she reaches her full adult size. Keeping the dog house small will make it easier for the pet to warm it with her own body heat.

The doghouse should be positioned away from the prevailing winds to reduce heat loss.

However, you should not position the doghouse in direct sunlight since this can result in overheating, even during cold weather months. A doghouse should be raised off the ground to keep moisture out.
