ARTHRITIS

Is there anything I can do for my dog with arthritis?

Arthritis is a normal part of the aging process for dogs, just as it is for people. In fact the percentage of dogs suffering from arthritis is very close to the percentage for people, 20% and 17%, respectively. We advise pet owners with an arthritic dog to consult with a veterinarian.

As an added step, we also recommend that you give your pet a glucosamine and chondroitin based dietary supplement.

If your pet has arthritis in the neck area, an elevated feeder will be helpful. Soft bedding and floor coverings also make life easier for the arthritic dog.

Remember that you can reduce the risk of their pets becoming arthritic by regulating diet and exercise. Overweight and inactive dogs are more likely to develop this condition. Larger breeds are more prone to develop certain types of arthritis than smaller dogs.
