Cats
have different attitudes about hitting the road; some
will love a good ride, while others regard this kind of
journey the same way your owners would view a trip to
the dentist for a root canal. So, make sure the pet can
tolerate a long trip by seeing how she reacts to a short
one first. Before taking to the highway with your cat,
make sure your pet has the following:
-
Two
cat collars with current IDs – one to wear and one
spare, in case the original is lost. Do not use a
small dog collar on a cat. A cat collar is
expandable, so it will release the cat should it
become entangled.
-
A
harness for walking the cat outside during stops.
-
A
sturdy, safe and secure carrier to keep the pet in
when traveling.
-
A
supply of disposable litter boxes and the cat’s
favorite litter.
-
A
supply of the same water the cat drinks at home.
Using unfamiliar water can upset the cat’s stomach.
-
The
cat’s favorite foods.
-
Disposable bowls.
-
A
favorite blanket or towel for the cat to sleep on
when you arrive at your destination.
-
Toys and catnip for playing after arrival.
-
A
written description and recent photo of the cat that
you can use to create posters in case the pet
becomes lost.
Never
to leave their cat alone in a vehicle. Aside from
overheating in the summer, or catching a cold in the
winter, the cat can easily be stolen from the vehicle.
