TRACKING LITTER AROUND THE HOUSE

Is there anything we can do to stop our cat from tracking litter all over the house?

You can switch your cat to a non-tracking variety of litter; generally, these products have larger granules, so you are less likely to stick to cat’s paws.

If you do not want to try a new litter, you can place a litter mat around the litter box. These mats will catch the litter from your cat’s paws when he leaves the box to curb tracking around the house. Another alternative is to use a new litter box with a litter-catching ramp; when your cat exits the box by using this ramp, the litter on his paws shakes free.

In order for a mat or ramp to be effective, it will have to be cleaned regularly to remove excess litter.

Clumping litter has a greater tendency than other varieties to stick to cat’s paws. If you are concerned about tracking should switch from clumping litter unless you use a mat or a ramp.
