SELF-CLEANING LITTER BOXES

Do self-cleaning litter boxes really work?

The short answer is yes, self-cleaning litter boxes work, which is why so many have been sold. However, like any tool, self-cleaning litter boxes must be maintained to operate effectively. Follow the manufacturer’s directions for setting up and maintaining the product

Remember that self-cleaning boxes only work with clumping litter!

Self-cleaning litter boxes can be a convenient time-saver for busy people. However, you should remember that a self-cleaning litter box should be inspected daily to make sure it is working properly, have its waste receptacles emptied and its tray refreshed with new litter.

A self-cleaning litter box should be cleaned monthly, and all its litter replaced to inhibit the spread of germs. Warm water and soap should be used to wash any litter box. However motors and electronic parts should be removed before washing and never submersed in water. Follow manufacturers’ instructions when cleaning.

Bleach should be avoided, because some cats are turned off by the smell of this disinfectant. Remember to dry the litter box thoroughly before using it again.
