PLAYING IN WATER

Why does my new kitten seem to be more interested in playing with his water than drinking it?

If your kitten is refusing water for extended periods, an immediate visit to the veterinarian is recommended. A regular water intake is essential to the health and survival of kittens as well as cats.

Chances are your pet is taking in a sufficient quantity of water when he plays with it. The kitten is probably telling you that he’s bored with the standard water bowl. Cats like moving water; in nature, a rippling brook or stream is a sign of clean fresh water, free of the parasites and other dangers that may be found in still pond water. Many kittens are drawn to toilet or sink water, because the ripples appeal to a deeply ingrained survival instinct.

Your can appeal to this instinct by using an automatic watering system that constantly circulates and filters water. Not only will the kitten be drawn to the movement of this water, but also the filtration system will ensure that what he’s drinking is fresh and clean.
