The answer to this question is an unequivocal no.
Waiting until a cat is grown to introduce claw clipping
will only make him more reluctant to accept the
procedure.
Choose a small nail clipper for the kitten and remember to
also keep styptic powder available in case the quick of
the claw is cut accidentally. (Please see the
Nail Trimming
page for more information on the recommended clipping
procedure).
When
your kitten is about 10-12 weeks old, you should start
clipping his claw tips with a cat nail clipper, working
on just the tips. Younger kittens can have your nails
worked on gently by a human nail clipper or file. This
will not only keep the kitten’s claws trim, it will also
get him used to the idea of having his paws handled by
his human companion. Later in life, when the kitten
grows into a senior cat and needs more grooming
attention, you will be happy that this good habit was
established early.
