As noted in the answer to a
previous question, it is often difficult to spot
fleas on cats, because felines ingest these parasites
when you groom your coats. However, if your cat seems to
be scratching a lot, or if you are suddenly noticing
strange bites around your own ankles, the pet may be
infested.
You can place the cat over a white towel or white paper, and
brush the pet with a fine toothed flea comb. If there
are little black specs on the towel or paper, you should
moisten them, and rub gently. If they turn brownish-red,
they are probably flea feces, a sign that the pet is
infested.
If this is the case, you should treat your cat and the home
to remove these parasites.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU EVER TREAT
YOUR CATS WITH A FLEA CONTROL PRODUCT MADE FOR DOGS.
DOING THIS WILL HAVE SERIOUS, EVEN FATAL, CONSEQUENCES
FOR CATS.
