Cats and dogs are both great pets and share many
similarities, but they’re two very different species
with different metabolisms and different tolerances to
foreign substances. Flea control products that have been
formulated for dogs have high concentrations of
ingredients like permethrin, a synthetic version of
pyrethrum that can quickly cause tremors and seizures
when introduced to a cat. Many dog products have natural
pyrethrum in high concentrations, which, though harmless
to dogs, can pose serious threats to felines.
Rare is the veterinarian who hasn’t encountered a cat
that’s become gravely ill after being exposed to a flea
control product that was formulated for dogs. Treat dogs
with dog products, and cats with cat products.
If you cat is exposed to dog flea products, the
pet should be taken to a veterinarian as quickly as
possible.
