Food & Water Dishes
Most small animals will overturn food dishes and water bowls unless precautions are taken by the owner. Food dishes should have a wide base and be made of a heavy material such as ceramic clay. This will make it more difficult for small animals to over turn their dishes. Another alternative is to use holders to attach food dishes to the cage. For some small animals, such as rabbits, a hopper attached to the cage is often preferred over a food dish. In most cases, water should be given to small animals in gravity-fed bottles instead of bowls. Be sure that the bottle has a metal spout, since most small animals will gnaw through plastic or rubber.
