Nanday Conure

Personality:  
Nanday conures make great pets because of their exceptional talking and trick playing ability. They are also known to be vocal at various times throughout the day.

Origin:
These birds can be found in Argentina, Brazil, and Bolivia. Your domestic bird was handfed and captive bred in the USA.

Size: 
12” and a weight of 140 grams

Lifespan:  
25-30 years 

Caging: 
Minimum caging should be 20 x 20 x 30 with ½”- ¾” bar spacing. Bigger is always better when choosing a cage. Your bird should be able to have plenty of room to move about. Your cage should also have at least 2 food/water cups. A third cup is recommended for any fresh fruit and veggies that are offered daily.

Substrate: 
A substrate that is easily cleaned such as corn cob, cage paper or commercial recycled paper product is ideal.  The substrate & food/water cups should be changed and cleaned daily. Cage, perches and cups should be cleaned and disinfected weekly with a 1:20 ratio of common household bleach. 

Temperature:
Conures will adjust to room temperature, but extreme fluctuations should be avoided.  The cage should be placed in a location that is free from drafts and direct sunlight.

Water:
They must have access to fresh, clean drinking water at all times.  The water dish should be cleaned and refilled daily. 

Diet:
Conures should be feed a diet consisting of a variety of items such as:
     
     - Fortified seed
     - Commercial pellet
     - Fresh fruits & veggies
     - Do avoid avocado, chocolate, alcohol and caffeine as these can be toxic to your bird.

The use of non-stick cookware & heating devices can emit hazardous fumes for your bird.

Veterinary Care: 
To insure the health of your bird, it should be seen by an avian veterinarian for a yearly check-up.  If your bird is showing any signs of illness, it is critical that this is addressed with your avian veterinarian without delay.
