Molting

Molting is the process through which birds shed their feathers and replace them with new ones. A captive parrot usually molts once a year, but molting may occur more frequently if the bird is subject to wide temperature changes. Birds lose more body heat during molting periods, so their caloric intake should be increased. More protein and vitamins should also be added to the molting bird's diet to aid in feather replacement.
