Grit
Grit is an important digestive aid that helps birds break down the food they eat. Birds don't have teeth, so most of the grinding and disintegration of food into usable nutrition occurs in the animal's gizzard, a very large and strong stomach. Grit helps accomplish this digestive process and should be given to birds on a regular basis. Put grit in its own dish next to the bird's food, rather than on the cage floor where it can become soiled.
