Bird Cage Cleaning
Birds consume a substantial quantity of food relative to their body size, and since they digest their food very rapidly, they produce a large number of droppings. As a result, the bottom of a bird’s cage quickly becomes soiled and must be cleaned frequently.
Bird droppings should be removed from the cage at least once a day. The cage itself should be washed weekly with hot water (do not use soap), and disinfected. Also wash food and water containers, as well as toys and mirrors, with hot water.
Perches should be cleaned regularly, using a dry cloth, or one that’s very lightly dampened. (Do not wash perches in water -- the moisture will be retained by the wood, increasing the bird’s risk of developing rheumatism.) For tough dirt on perches, use sandpaper or wire perch-scrapers available at PSP.
