African Grey & Amazon Parrot

Cages
African greys and Amazons require a cage that is at least 39 inches long by 23 inches wide by 39-59 inches tall.  The bars on the cage should be thick enough to prevent the bird from chewing through them with its powerful beak.  Bars should be spaced 6/10 of an inch to 1 inch apart.  Perches should be 1 to 1.5 inches thick.  Round cages should be avoided.

Diet
The diet should consist of parrot seed mix or pellets, as well as fruit.  Good fruits include grapes, oranges, bananas, mangoes, kiwis, blueberries, cranberries and strawberries.  In addition to seed mixes, pellets and fruits, they can be fed lentils, peas, spinach, carrots, zucchini and pumpkin.  Boiled eggs, cooked chicken, red meat and fish can also be given for added protein.  The basic seed mix for African greys and Amazons includes canary seed, white millet, niger seed, sunflower seed, peanuts, safflower seed and oats.
